Vanora's Watch

Vanora's Watch is a Faewild protective organisation supported by all five nations of Antumnos. As a member of Vanora's Watch, you are expected to understand its history, uphold its Tenets, and commit yourself to the cause.

The history of Vanora's Watch is filled with adversity, but depsite setbacks, Vanora garnered support from four of the five nations. It was only when she died on a mission with that final nation did they give their support. Its work, and Vanora's vision, continue to this day.

Vanora's Watch was formed in 2348 after the death of its progenitor, Vanora Clark.

Vanora was a coblyn born in 2293 in Ghent, the northernmost province in Kloth'va. She grew up in a small village close to the edge of the Faewilds, which fascinated her. Vanora spent many of her days daring herself to go nearer to it, touching the trees, looking into its depths… much to the concern of her parents. As she grew into an adult, she sought more to understand it, and travelled to Lyonn. Many piskies, who had dedicated their lives to patrolling the Faewilds, viewed her with skeptism (and some with disdain), as they believed that it was their birthright as piskies to deal with the threats from within the dark forest.

However, the Yarl of Corvus, Nerys, saw in Vanora a spark of something greater. Yarl Nerys took Vanora under her wing, introducing her to their ways with the Faewilds. Vanora lived with them for a time, learned all they had to offer, and began writing her diaries.

With the piskies of Corvus, Vanora began venturing into the Faewilds, recording everything she saw and fought. Over the years, she started to realise that the threats weren't going away, and she believed that they would only become worse. This is when the idea of a Wildswatch was born, and Vanora travelled home to Kloth'va, seeking audience with the Queen.

Queen Seren heard her plea, and supported her, agreeing that the issue of the Faewilds would soon start spilling past the piskies. She tasked Vanora with travelling to the other nations, and gaining their support. Vanora gladly went.

The Council of Havod were almost easy to convince, though with their connection to the dead, she wasn't wholly surprised. Havod was close enough to the edge of the Faewilds that sometimes creatures ventured into their lands, and taken their peoples' lives.

The Brigadier General of Llanhythel took a bit more convincing. While he appreciated the idea of a Wildswatch, he wasn't fully on board until it was pointed out to him that it might be a good way to allow certain members of the military to recompense for their actions.

The Tairyn of Mythvye was a strange encounter, though Vanora would later say she understood it better the more she thought about it. As Mythvye was so far from the Faewilds, its people had never encountered the dangers within, but the young Tairyn was eager to “make something of their reign”, and even volunteered to join.

Lyonn, however, remained unconvinced. While Vanora had been roaming Antumnos to gain support, Yarl Nerys had been advocating for her vision amongst the Yarls. Many Yarls weren't against the idea, but the Yarl of the biggest yarldom, Falco, was stubborn. He maintained that “piskies had always warded the Faewilds, and they always will”. With Falco and their close ally Buteo refusing to commit, many other yarldoms did not dare go against them.

Vanora returned to Lyonn, where she travelled between the yarldoms, and quietly gained their support. Before facing the Yarls of Falco and Buteo, Nerys led Vanora through a ceremony that made her an honorary Corvus. Together, they met with the Yarls, and they ventured into the Faewilds with them.

What exactly happened in the Faewilds has never been made public knowledge. But Vanora died that day, and the Yarls of Falco and Buteo finally pledged themselves to her idea, with the rest of Lyonn following suit. Yarl Nerys named the watch in Vanora's honour, and has never said another word since.
